Winter Blog PageThere are many destinations for skiing in Turkey. Among all the top destinations for winter sports enthusiasts, I have chosen 3 to create a top three list. These destinations are Uludağ, Erciyes, and Palandöken. Each offers unique experiences, excellent facilities, and beautiful landscapes. Here's a closer look at what each resort has to offer.
Too Long, Give Me A Short Version
Amongst the three, Uludağ is the resort with the most elegant accommodations. It is very close to Istanbul and is usually the destination for Turkish celebrities as well. This makes Uludağ the most expensive choice between the three.
To me, Palandöken has the best price / performance ratio. The snow is usually of great quality. The only drawback is that it is away from Istanbul and other popular tourist destinations. If you don't mind taking a flight to Erzurum airport, this should be your choice. Take a look at this blog post for more info.
Erciyes is a great destination if you want to mix your winter vacation with some sightseeing. Cappadocia, famed with its fairy chimneys and balloon rides is only a 70 minutes drive away. The mountain is in the city of Kayseri which has many historical landmarks, busy markets and restaurants that offer local delicacies such as pastrami or Turkish ravioli. The only drawback of Erciyes is the snow quality is not as good when compared with the other two. Erciyes resorts usually have the best price though.
Uludağ Ski Resort
Location
Uludağ is the most popular and well-developed ski resort in Turkey. Located near Bursa, it's about a three-hour drive from Istanbul, making it easily accessible for both locals and tourists. You can also take a ferry to Bursa and then a short drive up to the mountain.
Skiing Experience
Uludağ is ideal for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. It has 28 kilometers of slopes with a variety of runs from beginner to advanced. The resort also features modern lift systems, including chair lifts and gondolas, ensuring quick and easy access to the slopes.
Facilities and Accommodation
The resort is well-equipped with numerous hotels, ranging from luxury to budget options. There are also many restaurants, cafes, and bars, creating a lively après-ski scene. Additionally, Uludağ has ski schools and rental shops, making it convenient for those who are new to skiing or need equipment.
Other Activities
Aside from skiing, Uludağ offers snowboarding, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. There are also thermal baths nearby, perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes.
Palandöken Ski Resort
Location
Palandöken is located near Erzurum, in eastern Turkey. It's one of the highest and coldest ski resorts in the country, which ensures excellent snow conditions. The resort is easily accessible via flights to Erzurum, with a short transfer to the slopes.
Skiing Experience
Palandöken features around 43 kilometers of slopes, with a good mix of trails for beginners, intermediates, and experts. The resort is known for its long, challenging runs and reliable snow cover, thanks to its high elevation and cold climate.
Facilities and Accommodation
The resort offers a variety of accommodation options, including hotels and lodges. Facilities are well-maintained, with modern lifts, ski schools, and equipment rentals. The resort is also less crowded compared to Uludağ, providing a more tranquil skiing experience.
Other Activities
Palandöken is perfect for those seeking a quieter, more laid-back skiing experience. The nearby city of Erzurum is rich in history and culture, with sites like the Erzurum Castle and Twin Minaret Madrasa.
Erciyes Ski Resort
Location
Erciyes Ski Resort is located near Kayseri, in central Turkey. It's well-connected by flights from major cities like Istanbul and Ankara, with the resort just a short drive from the Kayseri airport.
Skiing Experience
Erciyes is known for its extensive and diverse terrain. The resort boasts around 150 kilometers of slopes, catering to all skill levels. The snow quality is excellent, thanks to the high altitude and cold temperatures, with some areas reaching up to 3,917 meters above sea level.
Facilities and Accommodation
Erciyes has a range of accommodations, from luxury hotels to more affordable lodgings. The resort is modern, with high-quality lift systems, ski schools, and rental shops. Restaurants and cafes are available, offering both local and international cuisine.

Night skiing is available in Erciyes. The nearby city of Kayseri is worth exploring for its historical sites and delicious local food. Cappadocia is also a short one hour drive away and is worth a visit with its otherworldly landscape.
