Hiking In Turkey

The Lycian Way is a long-distance hiking trail stretching approximately 335 miles (540 kilometres) across the ancient region of Lycia in western Turkey. Named after the ancient Lycian civilization that once thrived in the area, this trail offers adventurers a journey through diverse terrain, from rugged mountains to tranquil valleys.

Highlights of the Lycian Way

The Lycian Way traverses some of Turkey's most picturesque landscapes. Hikers encounter rolling hills adorned with olive groves, pine forests fragrant with resin, and expansive meadows carpeted with wildflowers. The trail provides breathtaking vistas of the Aegean Sea and glimpses into rural Turkish life.

Along the trail, hikers encounter remnants of ancient civilizations. Historical sites such as the ruins of Sardis, the ancient capital of Lycia, offer insights into Turkey's rich archaeological heritage. Other notable stops include Roman aqueducts, Byzantine churches, and Ottoman bridges, each revealing layers of Turkey's diverse history.

Location & Climate

Located on the south-west of Turkey, Fethiye and its surroundings are in close proximity to the most famous beach resorts of Turkey. It is to the east of Antalya, a very famous beach resort city in the south of Turkey, about 125 miles (200 kms) away. Antalya has an airport with connections to Istanbul.

This region which receives average rainfall during the winter months with temperatures at around 42-50 Fahrenheit (6-12 Celsius); and very hot summer months with temperatures between 85-105 Fahrenheit (30-40 Celsius). You need to remember that these are averages and the extreme temperatures can be very low and high depending on season and day.
